Digitizing those singles (8), Dexys Midnight Runners

* En la cara A, una maravilla llamada there, there my dear.

+ By the way, special prize if you tell us about the cover of the single!. Montgomery Cliff, Robert de Niro,.....?

* I also found this cover of thunder road, that Rowland did in 1999, but that Bruce did not allow after listening to it!.

Digitizing those singles (7) - Rock it baby!, Dave Edmunds!
+ Now I have a single with no cover, just an envelope, no pictures, no explanations. But.... rock and roll!. Live!

+ Ah, baby, that's fine with me. Dave Edmunds is to rock and roll as Carl and Gene and Jerry Lee and many others. I bet he wanted to be born some years in advance, but...

+ Ok, so i have this single, which is 2+1, one song on the B side and 2 on the A-ide. Y qué canciones!. Otro día te hablaré de Rockpile!. Here you have Dave's music history.

* Ladies and gentlemen, en la cara B, your true love. Pure rock and roll.

+ Ok, si te quedas con ganas de + (just in case you need some more), pulsa aquí abajo (click below):

* Sweet little rock and roller.

* Little sister (it's rm).

* Please, read about the man!. and there you have some more samples.

+ Loor y gloria a un galés rockanrolero!.

+ Cheap Trick.

+ Ok, big words. I know. Very big.

+ Don't ya think so?

+ The greatest song Cheap Trick has done, ever, is this one:

* A side: surrender.

* B side: auf wiedershen.

+ In 1978, this song was all you can get to :::: your parents, got ya?

+ No?, ok, write to me, i'll tell ya.

+ Hey, dude, that was in 1978! yeah, the beatles were gone already, ok.

+ Loor y gloria a Cheap Trick.

+ In 1978, The Bishops (in other ocassions they were The Count Bishops) released a raw, vital, energetic and vitaminic album, Live!.

+ They were one of the first groups in legendary label Chiswick Records, specialized in new wave at the end of the 70's.

+ The Bishops released a single with a wonderful Bo-Diddley-like song, I want Candy, in the A side. This song was original of The Strangeloves, american protopunks from the 60's. Here you have a glimpse of their genius.

+ See what was going on in London these days!.

+ The B side of The Bishops single was a cover, till the end of the day. From the big old father of many british youngsters, Ray Davies.

+ Maybe, somebody will like to play this i want Candy in their rock group. Please, sing with the real lyrics:

hey, hey, hey, hey
i know a girl who's tough but sweet, she's so fine she can't be beat
she's got everything that i desire, she sets the summer sun on fire

(chorus)
i want candy, i want candy, i want candy, i want candy

go to see ya when the sun goes down, there ain't no finer girl in town
you're my girl you're what the doctor ordered, i think you're so sweet ya make my mouth water

watch this, i want candy, i want candy, i want candy, i want candy, hey
hey, hey

i want candy, i want candy

candy on the beach there's nothin better, but i like candy when it's wrapped in leather, someday soon i'll make her mine, and then i'll have candy all the time

say, i say, i want candy, i want candy, i want candy, i want candy
hey, hey, hey, hey, hey

+ Loor y gloria a los bishops y a chiswick records!.

+ Copy from LastCall Records: Guitarist Chris Spedding was a mainstay of the British session scene in London during the 70s, playing with just about everyone from early fusion band Nucleus, Jack Bruce, Elton John, John Cale, Roy Harper, Dusty Springfield, Harry Nilsson & Bryan Ferry to The Bay City Rollers (anonymously!) the Wombles and the Sex Pistols. Spedding produced the demos which got the Sex Pistols their first record deal. In 1975 Spedding had a hit record in Europe called "Motorbikin".

+ Since 1979 Spedding has been living and working in the US, where he had a long asscociation with rockabilly singer Robert Gordon which continued into 1992. During the 80s Spedding continued to appear on records by Joan Armatrading, Laurie Anderson, Ton Waits, Nina Hagen and Paul McCartney.

+ Look here and be amazed at the list of people Chris has collaborated with.

+ He tours extensively in Europe with his own band and he was recently reunited with Phil Manzanera and Byran Ferry when he played second guitar on last year's (2002) Roxy Music world tour.

+ In 1978, one year before playing rockabilly guitar for Robert Gordon, I bought one of his singles, released from his album "Hurt".

* In the A side it had a version of Bo Diddley, road runner, el correcaminos. If you want to see the cover, go here and count 12 covers on the left. You'll see a picture of Chris kinda similar to George Harrison.

* In the b-side, Crissie Hynde made vocals, but the song was not big thing. It was lone rider.

+ For listening to some songs (in rm format) of Chris' album from 2001, one step ahead of the blues, please go here.

+ It looks that Chris Spedding will play Alicante in july.

The Nitemares, rockabilly from Madrid

* Please listen Calandraca Boogie.

* Or Spanish love.

* Loor y gloria al spanish rockabilly!.

Reverend Al Green, please pray for our love
+ Wherever she/he is. And sing, forever. Reverend Al Green has a player in his web page with 4 songs of his last and perfect album. I'm afraid these songs are not mp3, but sure you'll have the right players. If you experience problems, please let me know.

* Please listen to everything's ok.

* Let's get married.

* Never found a girl.

* Oh, pretty woman.

* So, play them one by one and enjoy (preferably not alone).

Digitizing those singles (3)
+ I know, I'm going slow, goin' down slow, like everybody else. But, in the meantime, I am selecting what I digitize. Or, were you expecting all those singles right on the spot?. Ok, go slow, go down slow!.

+ Or not, go fast, go up fast!. Like the Stray Cats, who were a blast when they appeared in the 80s with their classic rock and roll eightified, rocking the town, rocking inside out.

+ So, in 1981, this single cost me a mere 100 pts, 0,60 euros!. Oh, boy!.

* Please, listen to rock this town. Original of Brian Setzer. He is rocking these days, today, but we did not know at that time.

* and to the wonderful version of Motown-Supremes, can't hurry love, on the b-side, impressive solo at the guitar!.

* Por si te quedas con ganas, escucha puttin' on the ritz.

* O look at that cadillac.

+ Loor y gloria a los Stray Cats.

Blue Rodeo, roots rock meets pop
+ I know Blue Rodeo desde hace muchos años (oh, no, spanglish, no, please). I think that outskirts was the first album I bought from them. I remember listening to rose-coloured glasses over and over. It was their first album, as I learned later.

+ Canadians, as they are, probably never gained the status they deserve in the american market. But, we know of these cases. Their music is so fascinating and at the same time so difficult to catalog, precisely because they play a lot of styles. Country-rock was probably one of those labels. But, at least for rose-coloured glasses pop also applies.

+ If yoy visit their web page, you will find a lot of info on their songs, written by Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor, the duo that writes most of the songs (if not all of them). This is not usual, most of the artists do not take care of their web pages. Among other interesting things, you have the possibility to label their songs, pop, country, rock, ballad, jazz, folk...

+ If you do not know, they just released a new album, are you ready, which starts with a perfect pop song, can't help wondering why.

+ I am sorry I could not find mp3 from the guys, but I did find wmf, a lot of them in fact, which in case you do not know Blue Rodeo will give you enough info about them.

+ Please listen to:

* Rose-coloured glasses.

* Til I am myself again.

* Walk like you don't mind.

* It could happen to you.

+ Maybe you need the lyrics to best follow the music. They're here.

+ Loor y gloria a Blue Rodeo.

Digitizing those singles (2)
+ Heroes: formed by Chris Bradford voc, guitar - Pete Lennon lead guitar - Mark Hankins guitar,voc - Brian Wallis bass - Dave Powell drums. Small hit in 1979: some kind of women.

* Heroes - some kind of women (a side): Pop-punk at the beginning of the eighties.

* Heroes -10% will do (b side): power pop ballad (all I want to do, is to get a piece of you, 10% will do, oooooooohhh).

+ Heroes were based in Devon, exactly 6 miles from Ilfracombe. Chris Badford composed these two songs and played them with a group called Randy, a pub group. They also published a LP "Border Raiders", produced by Pip Williams.

Digitizing those singles (1)

Rocking with my radio.

* Escucha Rocking with my radio - Lesley Jayne.

+ (Ok, it'll be translated, don't worry).

Mola, guay, ok

Free Pop Music from Cnet
+ As you know, this blog deals with music from yesterday and from today, that is from always. Fortunately enough, we now have very interesting ways to discover new music, more important, music of the type/s you like most.

+ Some years ago, you were in radio's hands. You could only listen to what they previously select. Now, if you read this blog, you know you can listen to the songs I post, but you can also go directly to the site and do the research for yourself.

+ So, today I bring you a selection of very nice songs, mainly pop songs. Pop in the sense of melody, tight voices, crisp guitars... you know what I mean, right?. These songs are from cnet.

* Paul is dead - news for you: Curious name, do you remember when rumour had it that if you would play the last seconds of the b side of the abbey road lp, or whatever song it was, you could hear John Lennon saying Paul is dead?. No?, ok, go here and read. Lee la historia de Paul is dead aquí.

* The Queue - Blue sky. This is a great tune, it could have been in the white album!.

* Outrageous Cherry - Why don't we talk about something else. Impressive song,

* Playtone - Sleep on sunday. This is something we all like to do, unless you are well accompanied, of course!. Scottish guys, good place to perform pop music, eh?

* Playtone - I love you but you can't act.

* Becca Schack - Rescue me. Little bit electronic, dark and cold pop.

* Johnny Maverick Moore - Broken wing. Post-folk.

+ Investiga y disfruta.

Pop is like water
+ Vital, you need it ever day.

+ Visiting Sounds of Subterrania, found some interesting pop to listen to. You can do the same.

* Rachael Gordon, 80's style pop:
-----------Break my heart.

* Treeberrys, probably the first power pop group I know from Japan:
------------down.
------------Turnin' around.

* The Tip Toppers: pop-punk from Norway:
------------Dance with me.
------------in the park.

* Hara-Kee-Rees: punk-rock and roll from Cologne:
------------You get me wrong.
------------Hick town.

The Coyote Problem
+ In some places like Phoenix (Arizona) they have a coyote problem. Which is maybe because they don't have wolves. Pedro y el lobo was an original of Prokofiev, who probably dedicated it to Joseph Stalin as the wolf.

+ In other places, like in sunny California, they converted it to The Coyote Problem, a wonderful new group, playing roots music, americana, alt-country, whatever, really all those terms are necessary?. Whatever, they deserve our appreciation. They also have a strong rock foundation. 5 complete mp3s for your consideration. You'll see that we have a coyote problem down here too.

* Goin' to Vegas.

* It's easy.

* You're never alone.

* To keep me from you.

* Black tar heroin.
