Graham Parker's first album
* Legend says he was working in a gas station, composed between you and me and then, Nick Lowe produced his first album.
* In the meantime, he recruited some of the best talents in London these days. People from what was called pub rock: Brinsley Schwarz (guitar, Hammond, sax), Bob Andrews (keyboards Lwerey & Hammond), Martin Belmont (guitar), Stephen Goulding (drums) and Andrew Bodnar (bass). That was The Rumour. With them, he made some of the most glorious songs in 1976. His first album, Howlin' wind, finds Graham full of energy, rude as rhythm & blues can be, sweet as a soulman, angry as only Van Morrison can be. I have selected some of these songs for you to listen and enjoy.
* For instance: rock and roll: back to schooldays.
* soul: you've got to be kidding.
* pop: silly thing.
* R&B: gipsy blood.
* If you think Parker has lost his ability to compose wonderful songs (ok, not so r&b as those early masterpieces), please listen to his last album, your country, from 2004 (lil' bit o' country, please). You have a glimpse of that at bloodshot records.
+ Loor y gloria al gran Graham Parker.
