Diario de un Profesor de Inglés
Para mis alumnos y visitantes. Ayuda para el autoaprendizaje de inglés.
Acerca de
My name: Paco Bazaga Calderón. I am a teacher of English at the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de Madrid (Jesús Maestro).

Business English together with my interest in the Internet and computers determines the birth of this blog weBLOG.

I would like to try the chances of bringing the Internet into my lessons as a first step towards the promotion of autonomous learning of English among my pupils and the visitors here.

Also, I think this tool may well accompany my pupils in their weekly lessons as a walking stick in the mountains. In it they will find support, ideas, additional contents, etc. to the lessons.

Though it is my pupils and my lessons that I usually bear in mind when writing here, visitors are also welcome to join in and send any comments they find suitable.

Thanks in advance to all of them for their interest in this site.

English Web for Professionals
The British Council offers us a lot of learning materials. Among them some very good podcasts (mp3 recordings you can download directly on your Mp3 players) to listen while going to or from home: radio sets do not work under the ground, but mp3 players do!

27-10-06 So far...
We've worked kinds of companies, the organisation structure or chart and -in terms of business communication- we've dealt with a basic business letter and presentations.

One day there was the question of how to say "autocartera" in English. I gave the translation from where I found it:

17-10-06 Maslow's hierarchy of needs
Tonight, while watching an episode of House I have seen an advert on the TV, which , to say the least, has inspired this posting.

It's an advert linking a kind of "perfect" fuel manufactured by Repsol with the well-known theory by Maslow of the hierarchy of needs :
Click on the link to read about the hierarchy and...
Maslows_hierarchy_of_needs.pdf

Have you read it?

... then analyse the advert and send me your comments, answering these questions:

1. What is the "message" of the advert?
2. In what way can a fuel make you a better person/professional?
3. What has "self-realization" got to do with a fuel?

I think this might be a nice debate covering both advertising techniques with how to manage/motivate staff.

YOUR COMMENTS ARE WELCOME.

As you possibly remember, last Tuesday, 10 -Oct, we saw some interesting vocabulary in our lesson:

Words to describe a company like: turnover, location, kind of business according to ownership, size, activity, etc., job titles,...

It is important to practise this vocabulary as we will be needing it when presenting or speaking about our own jobs....

I suggest you use the "comments" link below to help me recapitulate all the new words you still remember and examples of how they are/were used.

WHY DONT YOU SEND COMMENTS INCLUDING THEM?

Also let me suggest you read the following article, it will give you a chance to further practise new words:

The answers will be posted soon, ok?

Concerning letter writing, there is also this exercise which I'd like you to have a look at and work with:

Well, that's all for now. See you tomorrow.
