Mardi 13 juin a midi, j'ai été virée d'Intervida. Pourquoi? J'ai eu l'audace de demander à revoir mes conditions de travail: après un an à courir le monde (j'ai habité 5 pays en un an), je demandais un peu moins de mobilité. Après un refus de leur part, j'ai décidé de continuer quand même, mais en signant un contrat d'un an plutôt que CDI, sachant qu'une autre année à ce rythme là allait sans doute me laisser à plat. Je voulais donc me réserver la possibilité d'arrêter (ou de continuer) au bout d'une autre année de travail. Un contrat d'un an, arrivé à échéance, m'aurait permis de toucher le chômage en revenant, et donc de pouvoir chercher logement et boulot un peu plus tranquillement.
Ces requêtes oh combien extravagantes de ma part on soulevé le doute chez les grands chefs (mon chef direct n'a rien eu à dire dans l'histoire). Je faisais montre de très peu de motivation ou de flexibilité, et puis je n'etais pas sure de vouloir travailler avec eux à long terme; certes j'avais bien travaillé jusque là, mais une baisse de motivation, c'est inaccepable! Péché capital, crime sans nom, horreur et damnation, il fallait au plus vite se débarrasser de mes os. Et voilà, mardi 13 juin 14h00, s'achève avec très peu d'humanité mon premier (et dernier?) pas dans l'humanitaire.
Comme dit une amie "ces gens qui prétendent aider le Tiers-Monde en exploitant le Premier"...

El Martes 13 de junio a mediodía, me han echado de Intervida. Porqué? Tuve la extrema audacia de pedir que se revisaran mis condiciones de trabajo: despues de un año corriendo por el mundo (he vivido en 5 países en ese período), pedía un poco menos de mobilidad. Despues de que se me rechazara este cambio, decidí seguir igualmente porque el trabajo me gusta, pero pidiendo un contrato de un año en vez de indefinido, sabiendo que un año más con este ritmo me dejaría sin duda sin energías. Quería tener la posibilidad de dejar o guardar el curro, despues de otro año de trabajo. Un contrato de un año, una vez acabado, me permitiría tener derecho al paro a la vuelta, luego buscar piso y trabajo con tranquilidad.
Estas demandas ferozmente extravagantes alarmaron a los jefes (mi jefe directo no tuvo nada que opinar). Estaba demostrando muy poca motivación y flexibilidad, no estaba segura de querer trabajar con ellos a largo plazo; es cierto que había estado trabajando bien hasta el momento, pero una tal baja de motivación era inacceptable!! Pecado capital, crimen sin nombre, horror y damnación, mejor librarse de mi pellejo cuanto antes. Y asi es como el martes 13 de junio a las 14h00, se acabó con poca humanidad mi primer (y último?) paso en el mundo humanitario.
Como dice una amiga "estos que pretenden ayudar al Tercer Mundo explotando al Primero..."

Tuesday the 13th of June, I got fired from Intervida.
Why? I was insolent enough as to ask for some changes in my conditions of work: after 1 year running around the globe, I felt I needed less mobility. After this was refused to me, I still decided to go on with the job because I liked it, but then I wanted to sign a 1 year contract instead of indefinite, knowing that another year at this rhythm could well consume the energy I had left. I wanted to be able to leave the job or renew the contract after that year. And in the case of leaving the job, the one year contract would allow me to receive unemployment fee, thus look for a flat and a job with serenity.
These all too extravagant petitions worried the big bosses (my direct superior had nothing to say). I was showing very little motivation and flexibility, and I was not 100% decided to stay with them on a long term basis; it was true I had been doing a great job, but c'mon, such a lack of motivation was inacceptable!! Capital sin, desperate case, damnation, they had to get rid of me ASAP. And that's how on tuesday, the 13th of June at 14h00, my first (and last?) step in the humanitarian world ended with little humanity.
As says a friend "these who pretend helping the Third World by exploiting the First..."

Lo siguiente que te pediran en una ONG que es? productividad, competitiveness y que mas? parecen multinacionales esta gente!
Bueno chica, animos! Ahora si que puedes cobrar el paro! Seguro que te saldra bien y despues de tanto viaje que te quiten lo bailao!

Ed, good luck with your jub hunting! Tell us the results, please... and remember you owe me a bibliography ;) I'm just starting "el desarrollo: historia de una creencia occidental", by Gilbert Rist: promising.
What comes next for me is some family-holidays, and thinking about what comes after the holidays... I'll keep you informed!

What is wrong with these people. Has it put you off working for an NGO again. I am in the process of looking for work. I have just finished my international development course, well I still have 14,000 words to write for dissertation. But in the process of interview...it all seems very competitive. Had an interview with Oxfam yesterday, but was denied. But they did ask me to come back for another interview for another position..vamos a ver! So what are your plans now? Take care Ed
